Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is supposedly looking to reinforce his attack front during the summer. Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez has once again been linked with the Red Devils amid doubts over his permanent switch to Bayern Munich.
According to Don Balon, the Colombia international could end his temporary stint with Bayern during the summer with the German champions uncertain about financing a permanent deal for his signature. The Bavarian giants have a strict policy of not overspending on their recruits, and it appears that they are reluctant to spend a potential club-record fee on the attacker.
Hence, United are reported to have made contact with the player’s representatives over a summer move, though it has been clarified that any decision would depend on Los Blancos’s hierarchy. The European champions have had a strained relationship with United since the failed David de Gea move back in 2015, and this could see them hold for a significant sum, having declined enquiries for Alvaro Morata and Gareth Bale last summer.
Despite the speculation, it would come as a surprise, if Mourinho has the urge to spend further in the attacking department which is perhaps the club’s strong-point at the moment. The arrival of Alexis Sanchez in January has brought competition for places throughout the attack, and the transfer kitty could be better utilised to bolster the midfield and defensive departments, where they have been frailties, on occasions this term.
