Manchester United center half Eric Bailly started the opening two Premier League games of the current campaign.

However, since his terrible display against Brighton on Match Day 2, Mourinho has kept the Ivorian defender out of the starting XI.

In such a situation, reports in the media suggest that the African star is looking for a move away from the Old Trafford club.

According to Mirror Sport, the 24-year-old defender is ready to quit Manchester United in the winter transfer window and the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal are interested in hiring his services. The British outlet have mentioned that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is known to be a huge fan of the former Villareal center back.

As far as Spurs are concerned, Alderweireld was mainly linked with Manchester United in the summer transfer window but eventually stayed with the club. He could depart in the winter window and Bailly could replace him.

Bailly’s current contract with the Red Devils will expire in 2020 and as per CIES Football Observatory, he is valued at £32million. United signed him for £30million back in 2016 (Mirror Sport).

At United, Jose Mourinho has got more than a few options for his central defense with stars like Rojo, Lindelof, Jones and Smalling around as well. Therefore, in my opinion, Bailly’s departure will not really hurt Man United’s back line.

  1. a few options for his central defense with stars like Rojo, Lindelof, Jones and Smalling “STARS?” They are not even asteroids let alone stars. I don’t see Madrid or Barcelona bursting the bank to acquire any of them.
