Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that he thinks teammate Marcos Rojo was among the top five best defenders in the world last season.
Marcos Rojo was arguably one of the best players for Manchester United last season before a crushing knee injury suffered in the clash against Anderlecht in the Europa League on April 17th cruelly ended his campaign.
Following a long rehabilitation process, Rojo has finally returned back to full fitness and he featured for the entirety of United’s 4-2 victory over Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.
The return of Rojo just ahead of the busy December schedule can be seen as a huge boost for United and now Ander Herrera has gone on to speak of his delight at seeing the Argentine international available for selection, before claiming that he had been among the top five defenders in the world last term.
Herrera said, “Last season, when he got injured, I told him that he was in the top five central defenders in the world because his play was outstanding and he was in amazing form. I felt so sorry for him because he got injured in what was the best moment of his career.
“He has been focused on being back and being as fit as possible, so I’m very, very happy for him. Now, he has to be careful because when you have a knee injury, you have to be careful with the rest of your body, but he’s doing amazing.”
