Manchester United legend David Beckham has admitted that he was astonished after Alexis Sanchez was lured from Premier League rivals Arsenal in a swap agreement earlier this month. The Chile international inked a four-and-a-half year deal with the Red Devils as Henrikh Mkhitaryan made the switch in the opposite direction.
Speaking during the announcement on his Miami MLS franchise, Beckham said that he was surprised with how things unfolded between both sides, and he is excited to watch the Chilean showcase his skills in the United shirt, as all other fans.
He told Sky Sports: “I still can’t believe it’s happened, to be honest. When he’s been part of a club as big as Arsenal and then he moves a few hours away up north to the biggest club, it’s astonishing to see.
“We all wish him luck. I’m a Manchester United fan so I am excited about having someone of his talent wearing a Manchester United shirt – so it’s exciting times for us.”
Sanchez made his United debut during the FA Cup fourth round tie versus Yeovil Town last week, and he put in a strong performance in the attack front, playing a part in half of the side’s goals in the 4-0 triumph at Huish Park.
Jose Mourinho’s side take on Tottenham Hotspur in an eagerly-awaited clash at the Wembley tonight, and they will fancy their chances of clinching a first away win in six at Spurs due to their recent impressive record at the national stadium (six wins in as many games).
