Stoke City star Charlie Adam has revealed that Paul Pogba’s tendency to get attracted to the ball leaves teammate Nemanja Matic isolated in midfield.
Manchester United have enjoyed a stunning start to their Premier League campaign and the duo of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have been crucial in helping the Red Devils enjoy such a successful first few matches of the season.
However, United’s 100% record this season was ended following their 2-2 draw against Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday and it has to be said that the duo of Pogba and Matic were not quite able to assert themselves on the pitch.
Now Stoke star Charlie Adam has gone on to reveal that his side had identified Pogba’s tendency to get attracted to the ball as a weakness they could exploit and explained that by pulling the French international out of position, the Potters were able to isolate Matic at the middle of the park.
Adam told BT Sport after the match, “We felt we could punish United at the sides of Pogba and Matic. Pogba is a world class player but at times he gets attracted to the ball and you can get the opposite side of him.
“At times we tried that but United are a top side and we had to work hard for that. He’s obviously a top player but if you can get to the side of him, Matic is isolated.
“At times we cause them problems. We have to respect them and they caused us problems too but we deserved a draw in the end I think.”
