Strongest Manchester United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Liverpool, Star Duo return

Manchester United vs Liverpool. It doesn’t get any bigger than this and Liverpool being involved in the title race this season only spices up things further. United also come into the game on a nine-match unbeaten run in all competitions. Jose Mourinho is expected to keep things simple and go with the familiar 4-2-3-1 formation. Here is how United are expected to line-up in the strongest possible formation:

David de Gea – After starting in every league game so far, the Spaniard is an automatic pick. He has conceded only two goals in the last five matches.

Antonio Valencia – Valencia was back in the starting line-up against EFL Cup opponents Hull City after having missed the FA Cup match against Reading. He is expected to continue as the right-back.

Phil Jones – A key part in the club’s revival in form over the last two months, the England international has failed to start only one of the last 10 league matches.

Marcos Rojo – Even though he is doubtful, Rojo is expected to start as he has done in 10 out of the last 11 league matches for United. The Argentine has found an impeccable partnership with Jones.

Daley Blind – Mourinho may prefer the defensive strength of Daley Blind over the attacking intent of Matteo Darmian. Blind’s last league outing was as a left-back against Middlesbrough.

Michael Carrick – Carrick has played the full 90 minutes in eight out of the last 10 league matches for United. As a leader, his experience and quality on the pitch will be crucial.

Ander Herrera – Ander Herrera has been the linchpin in Manchester United’s success of late. He may be reverted back to a central midfield role against an attacking outfit like Liverpool.

Paul Pogba – Pogba has become the creative force in the United team with four assists and two goals in the last 10 games.

Wayne Rooney – Rooney is expected to play in the left side of the supporting three, and help the team in attack and defence.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – A star of recent weeks, Mkhitaryan is a guaranteed starter against the Merseyside outfit.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic – Despite missing the game against Hull City through illness, the 13-goal hero is expected to return to the starting line-up.
