Former Manchester United Wayne Rooney believes Romelu Lukaku is the ‘perfect player’ for the Red Devils following his rollicking start to the new Premier League season.
The Belgium international joined the Red Devils from Everton for an initial £75m fee in July, and he has since amassed three games in as many league games. Lukaku has also taken his form into the World Cup qualifiers with a sublime hat-trick for Belgium in the 9-0 thumping of Gibraltar on Thursday night.
Speaking exclusively to TalkSPORT, Rooney is convinced that Lukaku is the right player to lead the line for United due to his strong presence and ability to score goals, he said: “For that United side, he is the perfect player. He is powerful, quick and strong and he scores goals, so certainly will improve that team.”
Lukaku has scored over 20 goals in each of the last three seasons with Everton, and he could be predicted to better his scoring record this term with the services available from the likes of Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been brought in to strengthen the striking department further for the campaign, but the Swede is expected to play second fiddle to Lukaku once he returns to the playing field in the second half of the season.
Lukaku’s only blemish came via a missed penalty in the 2-0 triumph over Leicester City last weekend, and he could seek to put things right when United make the visit to Staffordshire to face Stoke City on Saturday.
