Team Update: Why Eric Bailly missed Man United’s win over Tottenham Hotspur

Eric Bailly was reportedly left out of Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Tottenham Hotspur owing to an illness suffered earlier in the week.

The centre-back was not involved in the defeat to West Bromwich Albion this month but he did manage a place on the bench for the 2-0 win over Bournemouth three days later.

Despite this, the Ivorian was nowhere to be seen for the crunch Cup tie against Spurs and Mourinho preferred to go with the experienced partnership of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

According to M.E.N, the 24-year-old was spotted vomiting in the lead-up to the Baggies game and though the defender travelled to the south Coast, Mourinho was not prepared to risk him for Spurs clash.

Bailly has struggled with a couple of long-term injuries since his arrival at Old Trafford and the supporter would undoubtedly be glad that he will return to the scheme of things in the coming weeks.

United have looked a better defensive side when the Ivorian has been involved in the starting lineup and Mourinho will certainly hope that Bailly can remain injury free next season.

Manchester United entertain Arsenal in this weekend’s Premier League fixture and the team will surely eye three points with the Gunners likely to make changes with a view to their Europa League campaign.
