Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has provided an update on the fitness of six first-team players ahead of Sunday’s derby versus Manchester City. The Red Devils topped their Champions League group on Tuesday night after they sealed a 2-1 comeback over CSKA Moscow, who will ply his trade in the Europa League next year.

Following the game, the Portuguese tactician revealed that the likes of Eric Bailly and Michael Carrick are ruled out for the Manchester derby, although Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Phil Jones and Marouane Fellaini are probable candidates to feature this weekend.

Meanwhile, the 54-year-old confirmed that Nemanja Matic will definitely take part against the Citizens despite nursing a muscular problem sustained during the 4-2 triumph over Watford last weekend, he said: “You want the truth. The truth is Eric Bailly no chance for the weekend, Phil Jones a chance, Fellaini a chance, Zlatan a big chance and Matic is injured but will play for sure. I’m telling the truth, he’s injured but will play for sure. Carrick no chance.”

In the absence of Jones and Bailly, Victor Lindelof has slotted in comfortably at the heart of the defence, and it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho will persist with the three-at-the-back formation which has built up a winning streak, although without a shutout.

Lukaku also grabbed his first goal in five matches during the midweek triumph over CSKA, and he will hope to put in a strong showing for United upfront as they look to create a new club-record by extending their unbeaten home streak to 41 matches.
