Manchester United legend-turned-pundit Rio Ferdinand heaped praise on Paul Pogba after he put in a man of the match performance on his injury comeback versus Newcastle United.
The Frenchman made his first appearance for United after 12 long games, and he capped his performance with a goal and assist, which helped his side to a comfortable 4-1 victory.
In the aftermath of the game, Ferdinand was pleased with the 24-year-old who brought the attacking prowess that had been lacking in the United midfield in recent months.
He told BT Sport: “He’s teasing the defenders [in the lead-up to Martial’s goal]. That’s what you come to watch. It’s just a tantalising ball for Martial to attack. He then showed the desire to score the goal.”
With Pogba back in the United ranks, the team appear to play collectively with a lot more freedom. The 24-year-old has now earned the man of the match accolade in each of his three Premier League home games this term, and the fans will no doubt expect a similar performance when United take on the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City in early December.
Manchester United are winless on the road to top-six opposition under Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese tactician may have to change his tactical approach versus Arsene Wenger’s side, who are flourishing in their home ground this season.
