Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has controversially gone on to state that Manchester United attacker Romelu Lukaku is not a world class striker.
Manchester United were in desperate need to sign a new striker during the summer and they went all out to acquire the services of Romelu Lukaku from Everton for a whopping fee of around £75million.
While there was initial skepticism as to whether Lukaku would be able to succeed at Manchester United, the 24-year-old has already managed to silence his doubters by scoring six Premier League goals in as many matches so far this season.
Due to his exploits at Old Trafford, many believe that Lukaku has already reached the level of a world-class striker but Arsenal legend Thierry Henry does not quite believe that the Belgian has reached such a level as of yet and stated that Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is the only world-class striker currently playing his trade in the Premier League.
Henry told Sky Sports, “The closest to being world class, or is world class, or has been world class is Aguero because of the longevity of what he has done in the Premier League year in, year out.
“He’s won the league here and got to the final of the World Cup. He’s been doing it the longest so you have to give him a bit of credit. I think we sometimes bypass Aguero like he didn’t happen but we all agree that stats show he’s the best.
“Lukaku has only just arrived at Manchester United and he’s not played in the Champions League. We always talk about world class and the debate is always there, but Aguero is the closest to it.”
While United fans may disagree with Henry’s assessment, Lukaku has to yet prove himself at the highest level, such as the Champions League but that said, there is no doubt that the 24-year-old will eventually become world class, playing in the talented Manchester United side.
