Arsenal legend-turned-pundit Thierry Henry believes Anthony Martial has fared better than him at the same stage of his career. The 40-year-old has backed his compatriot to become ‘world class’ as he progresses further at Manchester United.
The Frenchman struggled during Jose Mourinho’s first season at Old Trafford where he managed just eight goals in all competitions. However, he has shown a vast improvement in his second year under the Portuguese with five goals in the space of just over 50 days.
Speaking to FourFourTwo, Henry was full of praise for Martial, who he feels has developed better than him at the age of 21, he said: “Anthony Martial is a far better player than I was at that age. Martial can be world class.”
Henry is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League era, and receiving such a compliment is likely to boost the morale of Martial, who has also been named United’s Player of the Month for September.
Despite his impressive showing, Martial failed to make the France squad for the final set of World Cup qualifiers, and he will be looking to maintain consistent performances to make the cut next time around.
