According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and make an approach to sign him this summer – he’ll be out of contract in two months.
Spurs could lose Michel Vorm at the end of the season and believe the United stopper could be a good replacement after his fine form on loan at Aston Villa.
Johnstone joined the Villans in January 2017 on an 18-month loan and has gone to make 65 appearances in all competitions, keeping 27 clean sheets.
His spell in the Midlands is his seventh loan, having previously played for Oldham Athletic, Scunthorpe United, Walsall, Yeovil Town, Doncaster Rovers and Preston North End.
The 25-year-old has been a regular for Steve Bruce’s side between the sticks, playing in all 43 of their Championship matches this season, and has been linked with a permanent move to Villa Park.
However, Tottenham’s interest could throw a spanner in the works. Vorm has played second fiddle to first-choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at Tottenham for the last four years and could leave Spurs at the end of his contract this summer.
If the 34-year-old departs, a move for Johnstone could materialise and he wouldn’t break the bank as he’ll be a free transfer in the coming months.
Good step
