According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are keen to fast-forward talks with Manchester United for Anthony Martial. The Londoners are interested in signing the unsettled 22-year-old to boost their attacking options for next season, and Martial not being in France’s World Cup squad makes talks a lot easier this summer.
Martial could be on his way out of Old Trafford after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho last season. The Frenchman was substituted on or substituted off in 37 of his 45 appearances for United. He still contributed a respectable 20 goals in all competitions, but Alexis Sanchez appears to be ahead of Martial in the pecking order.
The £70million-rated star has made a total of 136 appearances for the Red Devils since his 2015-move from AS Monaco, but his time in Manchester could be coming to an end. Tottenham are looking to capitalise on his situation to bring him to London and United might not stand in his way if the price is right.
Martial’s sale wouldn’t go down well with supporters, but the player could take it upon himself to force a move if he’s not guaranteed regular playing time next season. Given United paid an initial fee of £38m to procure his signature, they likely won’t sell him less for £40m this summer.
