According to The Sun, Manchester United have agreed an £80m(€91m) deal with Lazio for midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The 23-year-old will be Jose Mourinho’s first signing of the summer after reaching a breakthrough in talks last week.
The Red Devils were reticent paying the lofty asking price, but Milinkovic-Savic will now become their second most-expensive signing. With Michael Carrick retiring at the end of the season and Marouane Fellaini out of contract in a matter of weeks, United desperately needed replacements in the middle of the park.
Milinkovic-Savic is highly-rated and will renew acquaintances with fellow Serbian international Nemanja Matic in the engine room. United’s midfield will look all the stronger next season by adding the Serie A star to existing players Paul Pogba, Matic and Ander Herrera.
The 23-year-old has spent three years at the Stadio Olimpico, joining Lazio from KRC Genk and going on to make 120 appearances in all competitions, contributing 43 goals. He’s highly creative, has a good eye for goal and has been in fine form this season – contributing 19 goals across the board.
In Serie A, Milinkovic-Savic has averaged a tackle or interception every 33 minutes, has made 51 successful dribbles (58% success rate) and has created 48 chances for his teammates. He could be exactly what United need for a shot at the Premier League title next season.
