Ashley Young must be enjoying his new found cult hero status at United.
Things haven’t always been easy for the attacker; despite a bright start to his United career, Young soon found himself on the wrong end of stick from United fans after some rather ordinary displays.
Despite this one thing no fan could ever deny was that Young got Manchester United and loved playing for the club. Spotted in the away end when United faced Newcastle in 2012, a year later Young offered the services of his box to a terminally ill fan who’s dying wish was to see United one last time.
The former Aston Villa star has since reversed his fortunes and is now one of the first names on Louis Van Gaal’s teamsheet, astonishingly keeping former Real Madrid star Angel Di Maria on the bench.
With things on the up for Young, the 29 year old has put steps in place to prolong his Manchester United career.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Young is willing to take a pay cut to stay at Old Trafford and is hoping for a 3 year extension to his current £120k a week deal signed in 2011:
He is hoping for a three year extension and is willing to restructure his salary. His representatives are poised to hold further talks with United chief executive Ed Woodward over the coming weeks.
This will only further endear Young to United fans who have warmed to the star due to his onfield and off field exploits.
