United hit with midfield injury worry ahead of Chelsea clash

Ander Herrera may be forced to miss Manchester United‘s game against Chelsea on Sunday after aggravating his rib injury, The Independent reports.

The 25-year-old was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI against West Brom yesterday after United’s medical staff passed him fit for the game. As it turned out, Herrera was certainly not fully match fit, being brought off at half-time for Fellaini, and may well have succumbed to the risks of coming back from an injury too early.

At this stage, there is no official confirmation from United and there isn’t likely to be any word from Louis van Gaal until his pre-match press conference on Friday but there are going to be some real question marks about whether Herrera should play even if available.

There is now an inherent risk that Van Gaal could do exactly the same thing and bring him back for the Chelsea game and cause more damage.
