United Officially Announce Double Midfield Deal

United have confirmed that young midfield duo Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have made a loan move to Barnsley until January.

The pair will spend the first few months of the coming season with the Yorkshire side in a move obviously made to give them both a taste of football.

An article on ManUtd.com notes:

Manchester United midfielders Ben Pearson and Joe Rothwell have joined League One club Barnsley on loan until 3 January 2016.

For Pearson, it means a return to the team for whom he made more than 20 appearances during a temporary stint in 2014/15. The former United Academy Player of the Year told Barnsley’s official website: “I had a great time here last season – making my professional debut – and want to pick up where I left off but help take us that one step further.”

Meanwhile, Rothwell said: “I’m really excited to be here. I’ve heard a lot about the place from Ben Pearson. He couldn’t speak highly enough of his time here and I just can’t wait to get going.

Pearson has played for England at under 16 through to under 20 level and another loan move to Barnsley could help him develop as he nears his 21st birthday- the day after his latest move expires.

Rothwell spent part of last season on loan at Blackpool- albeit for a mere three games-  in a side that constantly struggled in the Championship – hopefully the move to Barnsley will be less deflating than his time at Bloomfield Road.
