Manchester United are finding it hard to convince both Barca and Frenkie de Jong to secure the transfer of the Dutchman this summer.

Reports in the Spanish media (press image provided below) indicate that a new move has been made but there are major obstacles.

Transfer: Report – £50million+ star prepared to secure Manchester United move

As per Sport, the Old Trafford club initially moved in with an offer worth £50million plus bonuses but it was rejected by the Catalan club. Now, they have submitted a fresh bid worth £60million plus add-ons to sign the midfielder.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, De Jong has told Man Utd that he is having serious doubts about moving to Old Trafford.

The Catalan outlet have mentioned that the Red Devils have not been able to make a serious offer to Barca as yet because they still do not have the approval of the player, who is comfortable at the Nou Camp.

It is stated that the 25-year-old star’s main concern is that if he signs for Man Utd, he will not be able to take part in the Champions League.

Moreover, keeping in view the competitiveness of the Premier League, it is possible that the fallen giants might end up failing to qualify for Europe’s premier competition again. MD claim that such an outcome will be a massive blow to De Jong’s personal goals.

The CEO of United has recently revealed that there are obstacles in the deal to lure the former Ajax man and the Spanish news source state that the biggest obstacle is that they have not been able to convince the player to join.

This is not surprising at all. The best players want to feature in the Champions League every season and United are a work in progress.

In your opinion, who should Ten Hag sign for the midfield if De Jong refuses to move to Old Trafford?
