Manchester United have not given up on their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong and the question is, when will they give up?
Ten Hag has been pressing to sign the player for a long time and the Red Devils have even agreed a deal worth £71m with Barcelona (Goal). However, none of that matters.
Transfer: Man United told £55m-£59m offer would be accepted – Report
As per today’s version of Mundo Deportivo (press image provided below), it is clearly explained what Man Utd’s £71m deal and Ten Hag’s presence at Old Trafford mean to De Jong.
The Catalan media outlet claim that the 20-time English champions already have an agreement with the Blaugrana to secure the signing.
However, the 25-year-old midfielder does not care and is not willing to leave Barca for a side that will not be playing in Europe’s elite competition next season.
The Dutchman rose to stardom under Erik ten Hag but MD claim that even the presence of the influential manager does not convince De Jong.
It is stated that once Barca return from their tour of the US, the club will accelerate to resolve the future of the former Ajax man on a priority basis.
The player has been made aware that he needs to leave this summer or take a pay cut to continue playing for the Nou Camp outfit.
I really think United have humiliated themselves in the transfer saga. Should we continue to hope against hope that De Jong will arrive?
