After Manchester City star Bernardo Silva’s girlfriend took to Instagram to blast the quality of restaurant food in the city, we thought it was only right to celebrate some of the most famous eateries frequented by footballers in the city.
Want to know where Erling Haaland refuels after a busy Saturday torturing midtable Premier League defences? Need to know where Cristiano Ronaldo goes to eat his feelings after another snubbing from Erik Ten Hag? Read on to find out.
Vero Moderno
Where? Vimto Gardens, Chapel Street, Salford M3 5JF
What? Rustic Italian Cuisine
Who? Erling Haaland
Since moving to the Premier League champions from Borussia Dortmund in a £51 million move, Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has made it his personal mission to fit into his new home. Often spotted walking around the streets of Manchester, Haaland has found a favourite haunt in Vero Moderno.
So happy has Haaland been with the food served up at Vero Moderno that he decided to invite the owners of the restaurant to enjoy City’s 5-0 demolition of FC Copenhagen from an executive box. The lucky restaurateurs got to see some of the devastating finishing prowess that currently has Haaland as the standout favourite in the Golden Boot Premier League odds.
Wing’s Chinese Restaurant
Where? Herron House, 1 Lincoln Square, Manchester M2 5LN
What? Authentic Chinse Cuisine
Who? Manchester United Managers & The Entire Burnley Team
When the pressure was on for Dutchman Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United he used to retire to Wing’s Chinese Restaurant to eat his troubles away. Even after his sacking from Old Trafford, Van Gaal made a point of returning to eat at Wing’s with his wife Truus.
His replacement Jose Mourinho was often spotted at the Chinese Restaurant and new boss, Erik Ten Haag was snapped leaving the eatery over the summer. It’s not just Manchester United managers that love the finger licking Chinese cuisine of this city centre restaurant though.
In the run-up to Christmas last season, the Burnley team descended upon the restaurant for teambuilding. Ultimately though, the tasty fare on offer at Wing’s couldn’t help to save the Clarets from the drop.
Menagerie Restaurant & Bar
Where? New Bailey Street, Salford M3 5JL
What? Global Cusine & Canapes
Who? Premier League Players
Owned by Seema Malhotra and Stacey Forsey, two of the stars of Real Housewives of Cheshire, it’s no surprise that Menagerie attracts some of the biggest names in football from both Manchester and further afield.
The restaurant is the regular haunt of City and United players looking to unwind in luxury after a hard day at the training ground. It has also been the venue for some proper knees up celebrations with Jamie Vardy and the rest of the Leicester City squad heading there for their Christmas party one year.
(Take a glimpse at the top food and quality atmosphere that Menagerie has to offer.)
Peter Street Kitchen
Where? Free Trade Hall, Peter Street, Manchester M2 5GP
What? Mexican & Japanese Sharing Plates
Who? Riyad Mahrez & Jack Grealish
In 2019 this plush restaurant scooped the title of ‘Best Luxury Restaurant’ in the UK at the British Restaurant Awards. It’s no wonder then that Peter Street Kitchen attracts footballers like Riyad Mahrez and Jack Grealish.
The pair who have been regularly spotted leaving the restaurant, will have been treated to a quality menu of Mexican and Japanese sharing platters. If you fancy going yourself, be sure to save up beforehand as some dishes are expensive as £75.
Rosso Restaurant & Bar
Where? 43 Spring Gardens, Manchester M2 2BG
What? Southern Italain Fare & Cocktails
Who? Manchester United Players & Samba Stars
Co-owned by former Manchester United centre back Rio Ferdinand, this sumptuous Italian restaurant has long been a favourite with Red Devils players. During its early years it was also a somewhat infamous watering hole of United’s most famous stars.
It’s not just players of a red persuasion that have been known to visit Rosso. Brazilian Samba Star and long-time nemesis of Chelsea defenders Ronaldinho was once seen leaving the restaurant with a fully satiated appetite.
After a recent renovation during the pandemic, Rosso has now reopened its doors to not just famous footballers but regular run of the mill punters too!
