World Class Defender Moves Closer To United Move

With all the talk of the shiny new transfer target toy Memphis Depay of late, it’s easy to forget that United’s defence is often shambolic and the main priority surely has to be fixing what should’ve been addressed in the Summer. Call me fussy but the constant vicious circle of a decent performance at the back followed by an embarrassing one is getting a tad tedious and there’s little dounbt not one of our central defenders would get near the top two sides.

United are crying out for a leader at the back, someone who can at least pretend to instill some confidence and assuredness amongst his team mates. Unfortunately, world class experienced central defenders don’t grow on trees and if you ask most Reds who Louis Van Gaal should but this Summer the answer would without doubt be Mats Hummels.

The Borussia Dortmund defender is the top of everyone’s wish list and it’s looking increasingly likely he’ll be leaving the club in the Summer, especially after recent developments.

Dortmund crashed out of the Champions League midweek and the home fans booed and jeered Hummels side who were beaten 3-0.

Mats Hummels noted after the capitulation to Juventus:

“I did not think the whistles were okay. It would have been okay at the end but not at half-time.”

Dortmund are currently tenth in the Bundesliga and it’s almost certain Hummels will leave this Summer, especially after such a testing week which has all but ended any hope of him staying. It’s now up to Louis Van Gaal to try and ensure United have Champions League football as well as the right transfer package to tempt Hummels next season.

  1. We need this guy seriously. We need Hummels and Ortamendi. Along with a box-to-box midfield player. Bring back Henrique and Chicarito. that’s all we need right now.
