‘You’re solid gold’, Manchester United fans praise David de Gea after stunning performance vs Sevilla

Manchester United supporters were delighted with the performance of goalkeeper David de Gea, who restricted Sevilla from scoring during the goalless Champions League draw at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Jose Mourinho’s side had been tipped to grab a vital away goal to enhance their chances of reaching the quarter stage of the elite competition, but it was not to be as the hosts maintained the pressure with multiple shots on goal.

The Spanish side were woeful with their finishing for most of the game, but De Gea made the most noticeable impact for United after a superb reaction save off Luis Muriel’s close-range header before the break.

As a result, the tie remains widely open ahead of the reverse leg at Old Trafford, but United could have done more on the attack front with Romelu Lukaku obviously spurning the best chance of the match.

Lukaku received a delightful cross from Alexis Sanchez during the first period, but the Belgian rather went with his side foot than his laces for the volley, which saw the effort fly over the bar.

De Gea is undoubtedly the best shot-stopper in the world on present form, but United need to find their A game especially in the Champions League, if they are to keep the Spaniard content for the long-term.

The 27-year-old has repeatedly revealed his happiness at staying put at Old Trafford, but there is still a likeliness that he could change in mind, with the option of a Madrid return in the future.
