Manchester United were looking to reinforce their midfield in the summer transfer window and were mainly chasing Frenkie de Jong.
However, the Dutch international ended up staying with Barcelona and the Red Devils moved in to lure Casemiro from Real Madrid.
Transfer: Man Utd prepared to agree terms to finally sign £168,000-a-week star – Report
De Jong is still on the radar at Old Trafford but Dean Jones believes the former Ajax man is going good at the Nou Camp. The renowned journalist told GiveMeSport:
“Frenkie De Jong, obviously, was the player we thought would be coming in initially, but it seems firmly out of sight at the moment.
“He looks so happy at Barcelona; things are going well for him there. So, at this point, maybe you can say Caicedo’s at least more likely than Frenkie De Jong.”
This season, Caicedo has been in world-class form for Brighton, who currently occupy the final Champions League qualification spot in the Premier League table.
Last weekend, we covered a story (via The People) stating that to ward off interest from Man Utd and others, the Seagulls are preparing to reward the £100million-rated player with a bumper pay rise.
The Ecuadorian international has already admitted that his dream is to follow in the footsteps of compatriot, Antonio Valencia, and play for the Old Trafford outfit.
After starting the season in disastrous fashion, Man Utd have bounced back with four victories on the trot in the league but they still need to reinforce key areas.
Reports indicate (The Sun) that Ten Hag will have a decent transfer kitty to improve the squad in the January transfer window. In your opinion, should the DUtch manager splash the cash to sign Moises Caicedo?
