Manchester United have been linked with Greek international and Roma star Kostas Manolas and lately, they have taken steps to sign him.
Last month, Tutto Mercato Web reported that the Red Devils have expressed clear interest in signing the experienced center half, who has a release clause of £32.4million in his contract.
More recently, La Gazzetta Dello Sport’s journalist Nicolo Schira has claimed that United are in talks with super agent Raiola, they have offered a deal that would make Manolas earn €6million-a-year (£103,000-a-week) and are ready to agree his signing for next season by activating the release clause.
Similarly, Calcio Mercato have also reported that United want to sign Manolas by activating the release clause of €36million, which would become valid on 1st July.
The 27-year-old star is at the peak of his game at the moment and he would be a fantastic signing for the Old Trafford club.
The main issue, in my opinion, is that Solskjaer needs a top center half as quickly as possible (in the winter transfer window) to push for Champions League qualification.
If the ongoing defensive dilemma is not resolved this month then it is highly likely that we would be featuring in the Europa League next season. Therefore, Woodward should not wait for next summer and must secure the signing of Manolas before the January transfer window closes.
Currently, United are 6th in the table, 6 points behind Chelsea, who occupy the final CL qualification spot
In the Serie A, Roma are also 6th and are 2 points behind fourth placed Lazio. Moreover, they will face Porto in the R16 of the Champions League. So, they would surely want to hold on to their defensive leader at least till the summer transfer window.
The former AEK Athens defender has so far featured in 21 games in all competitions for the Giallorossi this season, scored 2 goals and provided one assist.
