Manchester United are looking to sign a central defender and as per reports going on in the media, the club could move to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina this month.
The 21-year-old player has been linked with the Old Trafford club for quite some time. Even former boss Jose Mourinho wanted to sign him as reported by The Star back in October 2018.
Now, according to an exclusive story covered by The Sun, Ed Woodward, is willing to invest for the right deals to strengthen the team and interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is set to hold talks with the Man Utd chief over the signing of the Serbian.
Transfer: 11 Goals/Assists – Man Utd should secure signing of £50million Liverpool target
Those who do not follow the Italian Serie A, would not know about the qualities of this youngster, who is wanted by a number of top clubs in the continent.
The towering center half broke into Fiorentina’s first team in the second half of the last campaign and now, he is the leader of their back-line. Moreover, due to his 6 ft 4 height, he is a major threat in the attacking third as well.
In the current campaign, the former Partizan defender has played 18 league games for the Florence based club and scored 2 goals. He has already made 10 appearances for the senior national side.
As far as Man Utd are concerned, the current crop of central defenders at Old Trafford are just not good enough and Solskjaer needs a leader in his defensive setup, someone who could command the fellow defenders and put in consistent performances to solve the ongoing dilemma at the back.
Milenkovic perfectly fits the bill but he is not going to come for cheap. His current contract with Fiorentina will expire in 2022 and as per The Mail, he is valued at around £50million by the club’s president.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming weeks.
