Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

Manchester United are set to take on FC Porto in a tough game in the Europa League which they will be hoping to end up on the winning side after drawing against FC Twente in the opening matchday.

Erik ten Hag comes into this game under immense pressure.

The Red Devils got annihilated 3-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend in the Premier League and need some instant relief. Players must take that drubbing as a sign of motivation and put in a show for fans and Ten Hag alike against Porto.

Ahead of the game, Man Utd still are not aware of the injury situations of Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, both of whom were forced off in the weekend.

Although Tyrell Malacia is back in training, he is unlikely to be ready for this game. Harry Maguire also continues to be a doubt.

All things considered, here is how we think Erik ten Hag can set his team up against Porto in a bid to get their first win of the competition and it is likely to be a strong team.

Man Utd strongest possible XI vs Porto

Andre Onana is expected to start in between the sticks. He was incredible against Tottenham and if not for his heroics, that defeat could have turned very ugly for United. In front of him is likely to be a familiar backline of Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Diogo Dalot.

Casemiro is a candidate to start in defensive midfield after Manuel Ugarte’s horror show against Spurs. He is likely to be partnered by Christian Eriksen, who has been experiencing a good run of form of late. The #10 role is reserved for captain Bruno Fernandes, although his game has left a lot to be desired this year.

From the left. Marcus Rashford is likely to start with Amad Diallo getting the nod from the right. Leading the line is set to be Rasmus Hojlund, with the Dane hoping to impress and make the number nine role his own.

Off the bench, Ten Hag has the option of calling up Alejandro Garnacho, Joshua Zirkzee, Antony, Mason Mount (if fit) and Manuel Ugarte. Let’s wait and see if United can put in a performance to remember and take some pressure of Erik ten Hag, later today.
