4-2-3-1: Man Utd’s strongest possible starting XI vs Fulham with De Ligt

Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

It’s that time of the season again as the Premier League campaign is set to begin for the 2024/25 season. Man Utd have been allotted the first game of the season where they take Fulham on in the Theatre of Dreams.

Erik ten Hag will be hoping to get off to a winning start in what is likely going to be a make-or-break season for him as a Man Utd manager.

Transfer: From Italy – Man Utd ready to sign £60m star as Fofana is just an alternative

A good performance is much needed after the club’s faith in him and the reinforcements they have armed him with.

Fulham under Marco Silva are tactically sound and not an easy opponent to break down. The Red Devils need to be at their best and put in a performance to remember to make sure they set the right tone for the season.

So, how could Erik ten Hag set his team up?

In goal, there is no doubt that Andre Onana will start in between the sticks. In front of him will be a back four comprising of Diogo Dalot on the right, new signing Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire through the middle and Lisandro Martinez on the left. Noussair Mazraoui will have to make do with a spot on the bench.

Casemiro is expected to partner Kobbie Mainoo in the holding midfield role. The former had an impressive display against Manchester City and will want to show the fans that he has still got what it takes to play for Man Utd.

Mason Mount is likely to start as the #10 flanked by Marcus Rashford from the left and Alejandro Garnacho from the right.

Erik ten Hag could opt to start captain Bruno Fernandes in the false-nine role that played against City in the Community Shield.

Off the bench, Mazraoui and Zirkzee are expected to be handed their Premier League debuts whilst Jadon Sancho could also get an opportunity to feature.

It looks like a strong line-up on paper and let’s hope Man Utd can get the better of Fulham to get off to a winning start to the campaign.
