From Italy – Man Utd ready to sign £60m star as Fofana is just an alternative

Ugarte Uruguay

Man Utd desperately need to sign a midfielder this summer who can alternate with Casemiro as the defensive midfielder. If you had asked us a few weeks ago, we would have said that the Red Devils need to replace the Brazilian but that no longer seems to be the case.

Casemiro looks set to stay at Old Trafford for the upcoming season and to be fair to him, he is coming off a very impressive pre-season.

The Real Madrid legend had a ridiculous second half against Man City in the Community Shield which saw him turn the clock back.

Despite this, it would be ill-advised from Man Utd to sign to go into the new season with just Casemiro for the position. The club have identified a few midfielders for the position including PSG midfielder, Manuel Ugarte, and AS Monaco midfielder, Youssouf Fofana.

As per La Gazzetta Dello Sport, Man Utd’s priority this transfer window continues to be Ugarte with the club only considering a move for Fofana as an alternative.

The Frenchman is closer to AC Milan than he is to the English club, who cannot offer Champions League football that he desires.

As per the Metro, £60m is what PSG want to part ways with the out-of-favour Ugarte but Man Utd do not want to pay as much.

The Red Devils are seemingly putting pressure on the French giants to lower their asking price by diversifying their interest.

We covered a story revealing that the player is keen that he only wants a move to Old Trafford this summer. Thus Man Utd can afford to put pressure on the Ligue 1 side who need to sell a player they don’t count on for the upcoming season.

The ex Sporting star is coming off an exceptional Copa America campaign with Uruguay. He has a huge ceiling in the game and is the perfect profile to replace Casemiro in the long run.

Man Utd must ensure they wrap up a deal to sign Ugarte this summer and let’s see how it goes.
