Eras do come to an end and for Manchester United, the Erik ten Hag era at the club has reached its conclusion.
One wonders what took Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Dan Ashworth & co. so long to arrive at this decision that has seemed a foregone conclusion for some time now.

After last weekend’s 2-1 loss to West Ham United, albeit under controversial circumstances, the board decided to part ways with Erik ten Hag. Ruud van Nistelrooy has now been appointed the interim manager although it seems like it is only a matter of time before Ruben Amorim takes over.
Regardless, for tonight’s game against Leicester City in the EFL Cup, Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to name his first and probably only Manchester United XI. It’s anyone’s guess how he will set them up and this is what we think.
Altay Bayindir should get a chance to start in goal, ahead of Andre Onana. The Cameroonian is in top form this season but the Turkish international deserves a chance.
Diogo Dalot should start at right-back, with Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans forming the center-back partnership. From the left, if Ruud wants to be brave, he can go with pre-season star Harry Amass.
Manuel Ugarte is expected to start in midfield alongside Christian Eriksen. The Dane has been in top form for some time now. Ahead of them, we are assuming that Ruud will still play a 4-2-3-1 and that Bruno will start as the 10.
Amad Diallo is almost certain to start from the right with Alejandro Garnacho likely to start from the left. Leading the line, summer signing Joshua Zirkzee should get the nod ahead of Rasmus Hojlund for the cup games.
It remains to be seen if a ‘new manager bounce’ will help Manchester United get past Leicester City. The players who don’t start are likely to get opportunities off the bench and let’s wait and see how this situation plays out.
