Manchester United have been linked with England international and Atletico Madrid star, Kieran Trippier, for quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
In the summer transfer window (AS), the Red Devils were pressing to sign him but Simeone blocked the transfer and demanded activation of his 60 million euros (£50million) release clause. Back in November last year, AS reported that the defender is still on the radar at Old Trafford.
Transfer: Man Utd prepare offer to secure £16.7million January signing – Report
The winter transfer window has opened today and The Mirror (press image provided below) have taken a look at the potential transfers of the Premier League clubs.
As far as Man Utd are concerned, it is stated Trippier could finally end up agreeing a move to the club this month and it is possible that French international, Anthony Martial, may join the Rojiblancos in a swap deal.
The 31-year-old was a key member of the Atletico Madrid side that won the Spanish La Liga title in the last campaign. Moreover, he was also an important part of the England squad that reached the finals at the European Championships in the summer.
This season, Simeone’s men have struggled and the 35-capped international has been out of form as well. The Colchoneros have lost their last 4 league games and are 17 points behind league leaders, Real Madrid, in the table.
At Man Utd, Ralf Rangnick has mainly utilized Diogo Dalot in the right back role. The Portuguese international was linked with Roma lately but now, he seems to be a key player under the German boss. On the other hand, they also have Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Therefore, in my opinion, there is no dire need to sign a veteran right back in the form of Kieran Trippier and Man Utd should focus on strengthening other departments. What do you think?
