Manchester United have been after French international Ousmane Dembele for quite some time and the latest reports are intriguing.
According to Sport, Barca spent over 100 million euros to lure the Les Bleus playmaker from Dortmund in 2017 and his deal at the Nou Camp is due to expire in the summer. Therefore, they want to agree a new contract with him.
Transfer: £68,000-a-week star offered to Manchester United – Face competition
The Spanish news source have mentioned that the player wants to continue with the La Liga club but his agent is creating problems by delaying the renewal process.
It is stated that clubs like Manchester United, Juventus and Chelsea are interested in the former Bundesliga player and his agent is clear that his client can sign a big deal with the suitors if he opts to move on a free transfer.
Last month, another Catalan source in the form of Mundo Deportivo reported that Dembele has been offered to Man Utd by his agent.
In the end, the decision rests with Dembele, who was top quality for Dortmund but has mostly been on the treatment table since moving to Spain. In the current campaign, he returned from a long term injury and made is first appearance for Barca last night in the Champions League contest vs Dynamo Kyiv.
The 24-year-old World Cup winning star, who earns around £196,000 a week (Marca), can be deployed anywhere in the attack but in my view, we do not need to sign him because of two main reasons.
One, we have ample quality and depth in the attacking department and Sancho should be given time to find his form. On the other hand, Dembele’s injury record is extremely scary.
