France international Antoine Griezmann has backed compatriot to prove himself during the upcoming international friendlies against Colombia and Argentina. Pogba has struggled with injuries, fitness and poor form with Manchester United, and this has seen him start in just four of his side’s previous 11 matches across all competitions.
Despite this, the 24-year-old is regarded as one of the most influential players in Didier Deschamps’ squad, and close friend Griezmann believes the midfielder can return to his old self, if he continues to work hard on the playing field.
He said: “He was happy. It’s not easy when you don’t play at your club or you don’t feel at your best. It happened to me and he knows that. He still enjoys having fun and working hard, which are what matter the most. It’s up to him to prove and show that he’s still the player that he can be.”
The £200k-per-week star has the chance to impress for France during the two-week international break, and based on his showing, the midfielder could return to the starting lineup for United’s next league outing versus Swansea City.
However, his participation against Colombia on Friday night is deemed doubtful after having missed the training session on Tuesday alongside United teammate Anthony Martial. The pair are said to have picked up minor niggles, which may restrict their appearance at the Stade de France.
