Of the many problems that the Man Utd team has had to contend with so far this season, arguably the biggest one yet is the lack of goals from their strikers. The Red Devils have not had a reliable number nine to depend on for the entirety of the season.
Man Utd’s most efficient goalscorer this season has been Bruno Fernandes, their captain, who is actually a midfielder.
News – Deal close – Manchester United near signing of £62.5million star
It doesn’t bode well for a team aspiring to be in the upper echelons of the Premier League to have a dysfunctional attack.
Among the many changes that Ruben Amorim would want to reinforce come the summer, the Old Trafford outfit will be keen to sign a striker who is able to guarantee goals for them. In this regard, Man Utd have had consistent interest in Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.
However, as per Football Insider, Arsenal are already in negotiations to sign the talented striker, valued at £58.3 million. The Gunners, much like Man Utd have had striker issues of their own, but have managed to almost secure second place in the Premier League.
One issue for Man Utd in their attempt to sign Gyokeres could be the fact that they might not have Champions League football to offer next season. To do so, they will have to get past Athletic Bilbao and beat one of Tottenham/ Bodo Glimt in the Europa final.
However, there is an advantage that lies with Man Utd and that is Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician formed such a good partnership with Gyokeres at Sporting CP, and the duo could look to reunite at Old Trafford.
Over the past couple of seasons, the talismanic Swede has been one of the best strikers in Europe and has held his own even in the Champions League against big teams. However, playing in the Premier League is a completely different ball game.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Sporting CP striker and if Man Utd are able to beat Arsenal in the race for Gyokeres. Let’s wait and see how it plays out going forward.
