According to reports from Italy, Manchester United have been dealt some bad news, with Real Madrid lining up a £131m bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. The 23-year-old looked to be on his way to Old Trafford earlier this summer, but now his future appears to be elsewhere.
Real and Juventus are two European giants interested in the midfielder’s signature, with the former capable of blowing any United offer out of the water. The report states Los Blancos will offer Milinkovic-Savic a contract worth £7m-a-year.
Jose Mourinho is keen on another midfielder at Old Trafford this summer, as Michael Carrick is hanging up his boots to become a first-team coach while Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in the coming weeks. Fred has joined Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, but Milinkovic-Savic could be the second player brought in.
The Serbian international has made 122 appearances for Lazio since joining from KRC Genk and is considered one of the best midfielders in Serie A. He’d certainly improve the United side, but it appears he won’t come cheap.
Despite the Red Devils seemingly agreeing a deal to sign Milinkovic-Savic earlier this summer, he may end up being the one that got away.
