Blow for Man Utd as Chelsea move ahead to sign £65million star – Report

Diogo Costa - Portugal

Manchester United have been in search of a new goal keeper and they were considered favorites to sign Diogo Costa from Porto.

However, the latest reports in the Portuguese media indicate that now, Chelsea have moved ahead of the Red Devils to lure the shot stopper from the Liga Nos giants.

Transfer: Man Utd agree terms worth £112million in fee and wages to sign player

As per today’s version of Jornal de Noticias (news image provided below), Man Utd were in ‘pole position’ to get the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Now, the Blues are ‘better placed’ to sign Costa having gained more than 200 million euros from player sales this summer.

JN claim Chelsea are in an ‘excellent position’ to attack the Seleccao goal keeper and will initiate contact in the first few days of July.

His current contract will expire in 2027 and the Dragons will only allow him to leave if the release clause of £65million (75 million euros) is met.

It is reported that the price tag of £65million should not be a problem for the Stamford Bridge club, who paid 80 million euros to lure Kepa from Athletic Bilbao back in 2018.

With Mendy gone at Chelsea and De Gea close to leaving Manchester United, both teams need to improve their goal keeping departments.

Apart from Diogo Costa, Man Utd have also been linked with Inter Milan star, Andre Onana.

In your view, who should Erik ten Hag sign to be the No.1 GK at Old Trafford?
