Bundesliga Starlet ‘breaks silence’ on Manchester United speculation

Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele has quelled speculation of him joining Manchester United in this summer’s transfer window. The France international had emerged as a transfer target for the Red Devils during the backend of season with Jose Mourinho alleged to be eyeing a €60m deal.

Dembele, 20, joined BvB from French club Rennes for €15m last summer, and he put in a string of impressive performances as the Bundesliga giants ended their trophy drought. The Frenchman notched 11 goals and 18 assists during his maiden campaign in German football whilst also helping them clinch the DfB-Pokal Cup with a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Speaking to German outlet Bild, Dembele brushed aside rumours regarding his future by insisting that he would like to stay put with the Dortmund outfit, he said h/t Metro: Quite honestly, the speculation doesn’t interest me. There was speculation during the entire summer break.I like to be in Dortmund and I have consciously chosen this club after my time at Rennes.”

Dembele reached the quarter-final stage of the Champions League with BvB last term, and when asked about his future plans, the youngster cited his ambition to lift the European crown whilst also becoming a world champion with Les Bleus.

Manchester United are on the search for a new attacker in the transfer window, and it appears that Dembele won’t be anywhere near the shortlist for the summer. Inter Milan’s Perisic remains the top option to strengthen the wider positions, but the Nerazzurri are reluctant to sell unless United match their £48m asking price
