Chelsea enter the race to sign Man United’s £44million-rated star: report

Premier League rivals Chelsea have reportedly emerged as surprise candidates to pursue the services of Anthony Martial from Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

The France international has regularly been linked with a summer move from Old Trafford after failing to acquire regular gametime since the winter arrival of Alexis Sanchez.

Of late, Italian giants Juventus have appeared as the prime candidates to prise Martial away from United but there appears to be additional competition from the Blues, according to The Guardian.

As per the report, the 2016/17 Premier League champions are monitoring Martial’s developments ahead of the summer and they are eyeing him as a possible replacement for Eden Hazard, who is of interest to Real Madrid.

Despite the speculation, United appear keen on keeping hold of £44million-rated star, whose current contract (expires in 2019) could be extended by a further 12 months by triggering an extension clause.

However, should Martial push for a move, there could be the prospect of Mourinho discussing a part-exchange deal involving Chelsea’s Willian, though the Portuguese has previously dismissed an approach.
