Manchester United face-off against Chelsea in this weekend’s Premier League outing at Old Trafford. The Red Devils come off an indifferent run of form with just one victory in three matches, but they should still fancy their chances of beating the Blues, who were in a similar patch earlier in the month.
United boss Jose Mourinho has already confirmed that as many as six players are expected to miss the weekend game, and the Blues themselves will be without half the number. In a report covered on the club’s official website, Antonio Conte said that they were no fresh injury concerns, though the likes of David Luiz, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley remained sidelined.
Bakayoko has been a regular at the heart of the Chelsea midfield this term, despite the criticism over his performances, and his absence has been welcomed by the Blues’ fans of late. The Frenchman’s unavailability leaves a physical void in the centre of the park, which United may take advantage of, with Cesc Fabregas no longer having the legs to track every run.
Barring this, Luiz and Barkley have mostly participated in the Cup competitions this year, and it would not have made much of a difference, had the pair returned to their usual duties ahead of the Sunday afternoon showdown.
