Manchester United sold Romelu Lukaku in the summer and still have not replaced the Belgian striker as yet.
Moreover, the Red Devils lost top scorer Marcus Rashford to injury earlier this month and Solskjaer still has not signed someone to reinforce the attack in the winter transfer window.
Transfer: Man United will move to sign “brilliant” £50million+ player in summer – Report
If reports in the media are anything to go by then the Old Trafford club want to hire a striker before the closure of the transfer window and Islam Slimani is in the focus.
According to RMC Sport, Man Utd and Tottenham have made contact with the Algerian international’s representative in order to secure his signature this month.
The 31-year-old striker is under contract with Leicester City until June 2020 and is currently on loan with Monaco. In Britain, The Mail have reported that the veteran goalscorer has asked to end his loan spell early with the French club after the inquiry made by Man Utd, who are eager to sign him on temporary basis.
Slimani was impressive for Portuguese club Sporting CP before opting to sign for the Foxes in 2016. The African star failed to perform well for the 2015-16 champions and then had unsuccessful loan spells with Newcastle United and Fenerbahce.
However, with Monaco, the former Primeira Liga forward has been in terrific form. In the current campaign, so far, he has directly contributed in 14 goals (7 goals and 7 assists) in just 11 Ligue 1 starts.
As far as his international career is concerned, Slimani has so far played 69 games and netted 30 goals for his country. He was part of the squad that lifted the AFCON trophy last year.
In all fairness, keeping in view our current strike-force crisis, an experienced striker like the African man would strengthen the department. However, we definitely do not want an injured player. The £80,000-a-week star (Leicester Mercury) has missed the last three games (all competitions) due to a muscle concern and has only played for 25 minutes (vs PSG) since the turn of the year under new boss Roberto Moreno.
In your view, should Man Utd secure the signing of Islam Slimani this month?
