Manchester United really need major reinforcements in the winter transfer window but so far, it has been a frustrating month for the Red Devils and their supporters.
As far as the next summer is concerned, reports suggest that Man United will move to sign a top class left back in the form of Ben Chilwell.
Transfer: Move closer – Man Utd should seal £59million signing in coming days – Report
According to The Metro, the Old Trafford club have made the Leicester City star, who is valued at over £50million, their primary summer target and will move in to sign him.
The British outlet have mentioned that Man City have been interested in the England international as well but Pep Guardiola is not willing to match the above mentioned price tag to hire his services.
The 23-year-old left back, who as already played over 100 games for the Foxes, has been highly impressive this term under the management of Brendan Rodgers.
So far, in 19 league appearances, the youngster has helped his team keep 8 clean sheets. In the attacking third, he has so far provided 3 assists and scored a goal as well. Recently, the ex Liverpoool manager praised the 11-capped international and said (The Mail):
“He (Chilwell) is a brilliant young player who still has lots of improvements to make. He is a wonderful athlete with great power and running ability. It’s our job to help him play with confidence.”
We have already got rid of veteran Ashley Young this month. Luke Shaw is our first choice left back but the former Southampton player has been highly injury prone for us. Even in the current campaign, he has missed over 15 games due to injury.
Therefore, the 24-year-old should be shown the exit door and United must sign a top quality left back to replace him. In such a scenario, Chilwell perfectly fits the bill.
Brandon Williams has started 7 league games for us this term and has already scored a goal. The youngster has showed that he has got potential but as per The Metro, Solskajer thinks that at the moment, the 19-year-old is not ready to regularly start for the club.
In your view, should Man United splash over £50million to sign Ben Chilwell in summer?
