According to Sport, the La Liga will start next weekend and the Catalan side have not been able to register new signings as yet due to their hefty wage bill.

It is stated that Xavi would be happy to have De Jong if he takes a pay cut. Otherwise, Barca want him to be sold immediately.

They have allowed him to directly negotiate with Manchester United and Chelsea to complete a move away from the Nou Camp.

The 25-year-old star’s current contract with the Spanish giants will expire in 2026 and he earns a huge salary of around £25m a year.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have activated three financial deals worth £640m (760 million euros), still, they are unable to register new players due to La Liga’s ‘fair play’ obstacles.

The Catalan media outlet have mentioned that Manchester United’s offer does not please De Jong and for now, he does not see himself at Chelsea either.

It is reported that after three years, now that Barca are prepared to challenge for big titles, he does not wish to leave.
