Ousmane Dembele has been on the radar of Manchester United for some time and his situation at Barcelona has been chaotic.

Enric Fontcuberta covered an interesting story for El Periodico (press image provided below) on the transfer saga surrounding the French playmaker.

Transfer: Man Utd backed to agree ‘fantastic’ signing of £40million ‘influential’ star

The Spanish journalist states that a few weeks back, Barca were yearning for the return of Fati and Dembele, now, they have lost the former again and have banned the latter from playing.

With still six months remaining on the contract, if the Catalans fail to sell the Les Bleus playmaker, they will only hurt themselves by not utilizing his services for the remainder of the season.

As per a recent story covered by Sport, the La Liga side want £17m to sell the 24-year-old winger before the closure of the winter transfer window and he has been offered to Man Utd.

Fontcuberta reports that Dembele may have already agreed a pre-contract with Manchester United and it makes no sense for Barca to think that the Red Devils will waste millions in January when they can have the player on a bosman in the summer.

It is stated that by deciding not to use the World Cup-winning attacker, Barcelona are only reducing their competitive capacity mainly due to their frustration with the player’s agent, whose biggest problem is that he did not receive any commission when Dembele moved to the Nou Camp and now he wants 40 million euros.

We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the last few days of the transfer window. For the latest updates, watch this space.
