Manchester United are in search of a central defender and once again the name of Nikola Milenkovic is in the lime light.
The Red Devils wanted to sign him last year (La Repubblica) but failed. Moreover, the player was linked with a move away from the Viola last summer as well but stayed put.
Transfer: Man Utd have to agree signing of £58.6million player in January – Opinion
As per latest reports going on in the media, the Serbian international could leave the Serie A side in the January transfer window and more than a few top clubs are interested in hiring his services.
According to Calcio Mercato, Man Utd have come forward with determination and are ready to offer a significant deal to sign the 23-year-old star
The renowned Italian outlet have mentioned that the competition is serious because the likes of Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and AC Milan are also looking to secure his signature.
The 6 ft 4 defender is not only solid at the back but also productive in the attacking third. Last season, he scored 5 goals for Fiorentina in the Italian league. As far as this season is concerned, so far, he has scored 1 goal, provided 1 assist and helped his team 1 clean sheet in 6 Serie A outings. For the national side, Milenkovic has already earned 23 caps and scored a goal (Transfermarkt).
Man Utd need to strengthen things at the back because their current crop of central defenders have been highly inconsistent. Should they move in to sign Nikola Milenkovic?
Last month, Corriere dello Sport revealed that the former Partizan star is valued at 40 million euros (£36million). However, it must be taken into consideration that he will be out of contract in the summer of 2022, so, the price tag should not be as high in the January transfer window.
Calcio Mercato have also claimed that Fiorentina would not want to lose their prized asset for nothing and therefore, they could be forced to lower the asking fee to sell him in winter.
