Erik ten Hag’s obsession with the Dutch could hurt Manchester United

Erik ten Hag - Manchester United manager

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United have not managed to win the Premier League title.

Moreover, the Red Devils have not won any title since they won the Community Shield, the League Cup and the Europa League in the 2016-17 season under the management of Jose Mourinho.

Do you think Erik ten Hag can end the trophy drought at Old Trafford? To earn, you can always punt on United fixtures or try out casino xl bet in spare time.

Ten Hag excelled at Ajax and now has an obsession with the Dutch that could hurt Manchester United. Since the arrival of the Dutch coach, majority of the players on his wanted list have some sort of Dutch connection.

Manchester United paid over the odds to sign Lisandro Martinez from Ajax. He was brilliant under the management of Erik last season and was named the club’s Player of the Season.

However, in the opening two Premier League games, the Argentine international was absolutely dismal before redeeming himself in the third contest vs Liverpool.

To improve the left back position, United splashed the cash to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord, another club from the Eredivisie.

On the other hand, Ten Hag completed the free transfer of Christian Eriksen, who is past his best and mainly excelled with Ajax before moving to the Premier League.

Apart from Real Madrid’s Casemiro, who was not the first choice, all the players have that Dutch/Eredivisie/Ajax connection. The Samba star has mainly joined the club because he has received the contract of a life time.

Manchester United are still hoping to hire the services of Frenkie de Jong (Sport), who does not want to move to Old Trafford and latest reports suggest that the Netherlands midfielder is looking to take a pay cut to stay at Barcelona.

De Jong rose to fame at Ajax under the guidance of Ten Hag before moving to Spain. Now, he is not interested in reuniting with the boss because we cannot offer him Champions League football in the current campaign.

Ten Hag’s primary target to improve Manchester United’s attack is Antony. The Brazilian international plays for Ajax. He regularly scored and provided assists for in the last campaign and is valued at 100 million euros.

Since we have a habit of paying over the odds, it will not be surprising to see us splash the above mentioned amount for Antony.

Another Holland international on the radar of the Old Trafford club is Cody Gakpo, who plays for PSV Eindhoven. He was named the Dutch Footballer of the year 2021-22.

To improve the right back position, United are interested in signing Sergino Dest from Barcelona. The American international also impressed at Ajax under Erik ten Hag before joining the Nou Camp outfit.

Lastly, even Dutch attacker Memphis Depay, who failed at Old Trafford, is linked with a return to the club and it will be hugely shocking to see him come back.

Learn from Van Gaal’s mistakes

Ajax might be a historic club but the Eredivisie is not one of the best competitions in the world and Erik ten Hag manager must learn from the mistakes made by Louis van Gaal.

The current Netherlands national team boss brought Dutch players like Depay and Blind to United and both failed to consistently perform in the Premier League.

Depay left United to move to the French league with Lyon and proved to be an absolute hit. On the other hand, Blind returned to Ajax and once again became a key player in the Dutch league.

The only former Eredivisie star who did well was former AZ Alkmaar shot stopper, Sergio Romero, but even the South American mostly warmed the bench behind De Gea.

Therefore, Ten hag needs to understand that buying players with the Dutch connection are not going to solve Man United’s problems. Let’s hope that I am proven wrong.
