Manchester United are currently linked with more than a few top attackers such as the likes of Yannick Carrasco and Cengiz Under.
Carrasco’s wife has recently claimed (RTBF) that the Old Trafford club are very interested in signing the Belgian international.
Moreover, ESPN have reported that the Red Devils have entered the race to sign Turkish international Under, who is valued at around €50million (£44.3million) by AS Roma.
Transfer: Deal looks close – Man Utd ready to agree terms with their £120,000-a-week star
In my view, Man United should forget about signing Carrasco and they have to focus on securing the signing of Under.
The Belgian playmaker opted to move to China last year and since then, he has been away from the competitive club football of Europe. His decision to join Yifang did make him lose his regular starting role for the national side and he only started three of the seven games in the World Cup under Roberto Martinez.
The 25-year-old was an unused sub in the Quarters vs Brazil, played for just 10 minutes vs France in the semis and once again, he was an unused sub in the third place play-off contest vs England.
Out of 16 teams in the Chinese Super League, Yifang finished 11th in the table last season and Carrasco managed to score 7 goals in 25 league starts. So, it is not surprising that he now wants a move back to Europe.
On the other hand, Under has been a revelation since moving to Roma. In his debut Serie A campaign, the young Turk scored 7 goals in 15 starts for the Giallorossi. In the Champions League, he scored a crucial away goal in the R16 tie vs Shakhtar and provided the decisive assist to knock Barca out of the competition in the quarters.
This season, the talented right winger has improved on all fronts and he is arguably Roma’s best playmaker. His stats have been fantastic: Overall in 20 starts so far (all competitions), he has directly contributed in no fewer than 15 goals.
- Serie A: 14 starts – 3 goals and 6 assists
- Champions League: 5 starts – 3 goals and 2 assists
- Coppa Italia: 1 start – 1 assist
So, while Carrasco has struggled in China, Under has excelled in Europe and United must push to sign the former Basaksehir attacker. The above mentioned price tag of €50million should be considered a bargain for the 21-year-old star, who has the quality and potential to be world class.
In your view, should United sign Carrasco or Under?
Manchester United should sign Under in this regard.
