Good news as Man Utd enter contract talks with 22-year-old Spurs target

Manchester United supporters have been given good news, with The Sun reporting that Anthony Martial is in talks with the Red Devils hierarchy over a new deal.

The 22-year-old had an uncertain future at Old Trafford as he fell out of favour under manager Jose Mourinho and entered the last year of his deal.

However, Martial could now be set to stay as he’s believed to be in talks over an extension. The Sun say United actually might have a task to convince him to sign a new deal after falling down the pecking order.

Alexis Sanchez has been preferred in the first-team since he joined from Arsenal in January, while Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata have provided added competition.

The French international, who missed the cut for his country’s World Cup squad, scored and created an impressive 20 goals in 45 games in all competitions last season. However, he was substituted on or substituted off in 37 of his 45 appearances, highlighting that he’s not a regular under Mourinho.

United might be reticent to sell to a Premier League rival, which might put the Tottenham rumours to bed, but unless the Red Devils get Martial to put pen to paper this summer, his future will continue to be up for speculation.

A cynical view to the recent revelation could be that Martial is too big an asset for United to lose value, so extending his contract will make his asking price rise and gives the Manchester giants more time to negotiate an exit.

  1. Do United fans seriously believe Martial and his team will get the response they need? He’s behind Lukaku, Sanchez and Rashford. Does anyone really believe that will change next season?

  2. Excellent news as Toby will stay at Spurs! Good/Bad news for United if Martial stays as there is no way in Hades that Spurs will sell Toby to them as Martial coming to Spurs was critical to the deal. No doubt Maureen will try to sell off the United dross to Spurs like Shaw, etc. Ain’t gonna happen, Levy and Poch will tell him to do one, as no way will they strengthen an EPL rival (as Manure are doing) without someone substantial coming to Spurs in part-exchange. The days of Fergie bullying are long gone, and Maureen is a “light weight compared to Fergie!
