According to Sky Sports, Manchester United will complete a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk for Fred in the next seven days. The Red Devils previously announced on their club website that they had agreed a deal for the Brazilian midfielder and that a further announcement will be made soon, but his work permit application is still being processed and should be confirmed in the coming days.
United’s impending signing will play for Brazil at the 2018 World Cup this summer but is carrying an ankle injury. The 25-year-old picked up the knock after a tackle from teammate Casemiro, but head coach Tite game a positive update to allay fears from supporters. The last thing United would want is their £53m man coming to Old Trafford with an existing injury.
Fred is expected to be a regular alongside Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic in midfielder next season, providing more defensive protection to allow creative freedom to Pogba, so Mourinho will be hoping the Brazilian national team are taking care of him. There shouldn’t be an issue with his work permit, but the World Cup in Russia will likely mean he’ll return to pre-season training late this summer.
