Manchester United have not strengthened their squad in the winter transfer window as yet but they have been linked with numerous top quality players.
As per reports going on in the media (Mirror Sport), the Red Devils are keen on signing Dutch international Steven Bergwijn, who is valued at £25million.
The 21-year-old PSV Eindhoven starlet has been in top form this season and would be a quality signing for the Old Trafford club.
Transfer: Deal close – Man Utd to agree midfielder signing
The question is, where will he fit in Solskjaer’s current starting XI?
Bergwijn is a right footed playmaker, who can play anywhere in the attacking third but he has got raw pace and is mostly utilized on the flanks.
For PSV, the youngster mainly plays on the left wing but the Eredivisie giants have also used him effectively on the right flank. As per Transfermarkt, this season, he has so far played 16 games as a left winger, scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists. On the other hand, he has played 9 games as a right winger, scored 6 goals and provided 2 assists.
As far as Manchester United are concerned, Martial is our first choice left winger, he has been in top form and should always start if fit. Our second choice left winger is Alexis Sanchez, who has been inconsistent but we do know that he has got world class talent.
On the right flank, Lingard has mostly started and he has only netted 4 goals and provided just 3 assists in 23 appearances in all competitions this season. On the other hand, Mata has mainly warmed the bench.
Therefore, in my view, if the Netherlands starlet does end up moving to Old Trafford, he should replace Lingard and start on the right wing.
