Manchester United will most likely fail to qualify for the next season’s Champions League after dropping points yet again (vs Chelsea).
I think it will be hard for the Red Devils to attract quality players without CL football. Nevertheless, as per reports going on in the media, the Old Trafford club are linked with a top playmaker in the form of Lille’s Nicolas Pepe.
According to The Express, Man United have joined arch rivals Liverpool in the race to sign the Ivorian international, who is valued at £60million. The British outlet have mentioned that United are looking to replace Lukaku with the Ligue 1 star.
Transfer: Man Utd have designated a rep to watch versatile star, who’s rated at £22m-£26m
Lukaku is naturally a center forward but Solskjaer has at times used him on the right wing and the Norwegian boss has mainly used Rashford in the CF role.
Pepe is naturally a right winger, so if he does end up moving to Old Trafford, we can expect him to start in his preferred position.
This season, United have used the likes of Mata and Lingard on the right side of the attack. The Spanish international is past his best and in my opinion, he must be sold. On the other hand, the English winger has been far too inconsistent in the current campaign.
Pepe has been in sensational form for Lille this season. In all competitions, so far, he has featured in 36 games for the French club and directly contributed in 32 goals (20 goals and 12 assists). So, I think that the 23-year-old African attacker should get straight into United’s starting XI if he opts to join us.
Here is how Man Utd could line up with Nicolas Pepe. I have also pointed out certain positions which I feel that United should reinforce in the summer transfer window.
